STATEMENT / BIO

I believe that jewelry is the ultimate form of wearable art.

As a graduate of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and having a predilection for fashion, I have always been interested in how art and fashion collide and crossover -  specifically as it relates to jewelry and accessories.  The result is functional works of sculpture to adorn and be adored.  Seeking further knowledge of ways to combine art and fashion I continued my education and received an Advanced Degree in Jewelry Design at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM).

With a background in mosaic arts, I worked as an artist assistant for the late artist Mike Kelley and helped him develop his Memory Ware series (both the Flat additions and the sculptural pieces).  I've always been fascinated with the re-using of small and often under estimated bits to create new vivid objects. Using my past practices as inspiration I now make wearable mosaics.  Embedded in hand tinted resin, these mini mosaics are formed using reclaimed vintage jewelry, recycled gems, sustainably collected stones, found objects and other neglected treasures.  With ongoing study in both lapidary and metalsmithing, I continue to advance my goals of creating fashion forward, one of a kind, handmade jewelry.

No two MWM Designs are the same, making every piece of jewelry it’s own one off piece of art-to-wear.  Re-wear the worn.  Re-tell the story.  Re-think the traditional.  Art is wearable.
